AM SUPPORTS PETITION ON DANGEROUS CROSSING

William Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales has added his support for a long running campaign to make the pedestrian crossing outside Harry Tuffin's store in Churchstoke safer for pedestrians.

Local road safety campaigner Rob Harper explained: "The problem is that the road is quite wide and straight through the village and many motorists pick up speed without thinking. The crossing itself is in a bit of a dip and isn't visible till the last 100m or so. The result has been a whole string of near misses for pedestrians".

Mr Richard Williams who has been campaigning on the issue for a number of years showed Mr Powell a number of photos illustrating the problem including speeding traffic and lorries routinely parking next to the crossing.

William Powell commented: "Local residents have been trying for many years to persuade the County Council to significantly upgrade the traffic calming measures here. Although some work has been done, this still remains a very dangerous spot.

"As Chair of the Assembly's Petitions Committee, I will be more than happy to receive the petition currently being organised by Rob Harper for delivery to the National Assembly for Wales."
