New Lib Dem Proposals Are A Radical Alternative

Welsh Liberal Democrats have praised Sir Menzies Campbell's vision for a Liberal Britain as offering an exciting, radical alternative for Wales.
Commenting on Menzies Campbell's speech today, Lembit Öpik, MP for Montgomeryshire and Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, said:
"These are exciting proposals, which set a radical agenda for a Liberal Britain. Under the Lib Dems, thousands of the poorest people in Wales, would no longer have to pay income tax. Leaving them more money to spend on the needs of their families.
"But here's the clever bit - you'd still get better public services paid for by a genuinely green system of taxes, which charges most to those who pollute most. It's like Robin Hood, but without robbing anyone.
"As Labour and the Tories are increasingly swapping each others clothes, Ming has tailored a brand new wardrobe or radical ideas to make a better, greener Britain.
"These proposals will generate a lot of discussion and thinking, and show people that there is a real alternative to the stale old parties and their out-of-date ideas: The Liberal Democrats.
"As the Labour-Conservative coalition offers a bland and ineffective diet of bad legislation and restrictions to our civil liberties, only the Lib Dems stand apart with a genuinely interesting approach to government."
