Mick reveals Machynlleth Tourist Information Centre

Mick in Machynlleth Local Montgomeryshire AM, Mick Bates, is calling for action to be taken to increase awareness of Machynlleth Tourist Information Centre, amid concerns that its lack of prominence is having a negative impact on the tourism industry in the local area.

Commenting, Welsh Lib Dem Mick Bates: "The Tourism Information Centre in Machynlleth plays a key role in increasing the economic success of the town and local area, as it provides valuable information on local accommodation, local attractions and public transport.

"However, there is a clear lack of signs directing visitors to this centre and during the active summer months, when there are the most visitors, it is hidden by the market stalls. If visitors are not aware of the centre, they may fail to discover the many attractions in the local area and may choose to travel elsewhere. This would mean that many local businesses may lose out on crucial trade.

"It is vital that this centre is clearly advertised and accessible, to reflect the importance of the tourism industry to the local economy. I have written to the Powys County Council to bring this issue to their attention and to highlight the need for this centre to become a prominent feature in Machynlleth."
