Liberal Democrat AM Mick Bates has asked the Welsh Assembly's First Minister to consider an incentive scheme for all businesses in Wales to reduce their carbon footprint.
Commenting Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates said:
"Small renewable energy suppliers in Wales are at a disadvantage compared to larger businesses, as they cannot benefit from schemes such as carbon trading. There is a real opportunity to give something back to those businesses who are working hard to decrease their carbon footprint.
"A simple step for the Assembly Government to take is to pay renewable energy producers an amount per unit of CO2 they reduce. This could include microgeneration and provide an incentive to homeowners to produce their own energy.
"The advantage of this idea is that it gives something back to businesses which really need support at the present time, whilst also making a positive impact on the environment, rather than simply waste money on projects and consultations that never get off the ground."
