Commenting on the draft budget published today by the Labour-Plaid Assembly Government, Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates stated:
"Last year we faced a battle with the Labour-Plaid Government to secure a 2% funding floor under the local government settlement and the outlook for the next year looks equally grim, with local authorities getting a settlement which is 2% below inflation.
"The Government is cutting local services across the country and tightening the purse strings on local authorities, which have already been forced to make huge cut backs and efficiency savings.
"The draft budget unveils hard times ahead for local councils, at a time when they are already struggling with inflationary pressures, rising fuel and energy costs. This leaves local authorities in the difficult position of choosing between increasing council tax or cutting back on the delivery of front line services, both of which equal a raw deal for people across the country."
