North Wales-based True Energy, one stop shop for renewable energy products and services, has opened discussions with Mick Bates, Liberal Democrat AM for Montgomeryshire, as he looks to identify a sustainable solution to the issue of maintaining street lighting.
Harnessing renewable energy to provide street lighting is seen as a potential answer to the problem of local authorities throughout the UK being forced to switch off nonessential lights between midnight and 5.30am, due to soaring energy bills.
Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson on the Environment, Mick Bates AM, has visited True Energy and is impressed by the solutions that they can offer:
"Escalating fuel prices are causing major economic concerns for councils across Wales, as they are being forced to switch off street lamps to save money on energy bills" states Mick.
"However, there is light at the end of the tunnel as evolving technologies will enable councils to rise above financial constraints with new and innovative ways to overcome these challenges.
"Councils and public services must look to the shining example of companies such as True Energy, which offer renewable solutions to the issue of street lighting. This will ensure that we can continue to build safe communities whilst at the same time reducing the carbon footprint and cutting the cost of our energy use."
Phil McVan, True Energy MD adds: "Making best use of renewable energy obviously plays a key role in reducing carbon emissions which are contributing to climate change.
"Increasing use of renewables makes sense in a time when energy costs continue to soar, and solar power provides huge savings in energy costs. Furthermore, the government announced last week that the UK needs to reduce carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, if further damage to the climate is to be averted, commitment to renewable energy is essential."
"We were delighted that Mick Bates came to us to discuss renewable energy solutions, and we hope to develop a long-lasting and fruitful partnership," adds Mr McVan.
True Energy has installed solar thermal systems for a wide variety of clients throughout the UK, including Greater Manchester Fire Service, and New College Durham. The company has also seen an upsurge in interest in solar street lighting as Welsh councils look to save money by turning off mains powered street lighting.
True Energy has also supplied renewable energy solutions to B&Q and Carmarthenshire County Council, and is developing flourishing export markets in Africa, and counts the World Health Organisation and the United Nations among its clients.
True Energy's renewable technologies include wind turbines, solar photovoltaic (electricity), solar thermal (hot water), biomass, and ground source heat pumps (hot water).
