Lembit Öpik, Liberal Democrat MP for Montgomeryshire, will join the mobile unit of Powys' Drug and Alcohol Centre this coming Monday (10th November) in Welshpool to help raise awareness of its work.
Commenting ahead of the visit, he said:
"I am very pleased to be able to support this hugely worthwhile project. I look forward to learning more about the valuable work that the mobile unit does in helping and advising the local community on drugs and alcohol related issues.
"The mobile unit is also available to be used by other agencies, and has been used by Powys Carers and the Local Health Board in the past, to boost interest and awareness in their areas of work.
"It presents a unique opportunity to organisations to promote their work by enabling them to reach audiences in schools, youth groups, and other areas with respective relating materials who may otherwise not come into contact with this advice.
"I look forward to learning more about the work of the PDAC and hope that I can help others to do so too. I feel particularly that alcohol is the most under-estimated drug in terms of its social impact. The more we can bring alcohol related issues to the forefront, the more likely we are to break a taboo which imprisons millions of individuals to a life of silent addiction."
