Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has called on the Assembly Government in the chamber to make a statement on long overdue infrastructure improvements in Mid Wales.
Commenting, Mick Bates AM:
"There is much talk being made by the Labour-Plaid Government of investment into infrastructure, to counteract the worst impacts of this economic downturn. This gives the Assembly Government a golden opportunity to live up to the expectations of the people of Mid Wales and undertake some of the transport infrastructure projects that have been in the pipeline for so many years.
"In Four Crosses, the long awaited by-pass will bring vital improvements to road safety in the area. There was a public inquiry a year ago and it is time that the Assembly Government commits to building this road.
"We need to see progress with the Glandyfi Improvement Scheme, as well as road improvements into Welshpool from Halfway House and the long awaited bypass around Newtown. Our railways need vast investment, with an hourly service on the Cambrian Line and the reopening of Carno Station.
"Whilst there may be a reduction in road building to help meet carbon reduction targets, these small infrastructure projects in Montgomeryshire will help improve road safety and support our rural economy and the Assembly Government must deliver on these long overdue promises."
