Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has been campaigning for progress on the redevelopment of the Laura Ashley site in Carno, which has stood derelict for many years, much to the concern of the local community. Mick has called on the Assembly Government to take action and work with the Laura Ashley Group to ensure the site is re-developed, to bring real benefits to the local area.
Commenting Mick states:
"For some time now the Laura Ashley site in Carno has stood undeveloped, to my great disappointment. Carno is a vibrant community looking to the future, with people open to development, fighting for their local school and for the re-opening of the local railway station. There is great potential to revitalise the Laura Ashley site to bring real benefits to the local community in Carno but progress is long overdue.
"I have written to the Minister for the Economy, Ieuan Wyn Jones, calling on the Assembly Government to investigate ways of assisting Laura Ashley in the development of this site in Carno, so that it no longer stands derelict and can be developed to bring real benefits to the local area.
"I have been advised by the Assembly Government that it is in 'constant contact' with the owners of the site, but still the site remains undeveloped. I will continue to campaign on this issue and hope that the Assembly Government will work with the Laura Ashley Group to find a suitable buyer for the site, so that it can be developed to bring real benefits to the surrounding community."
