Mick Bates AM for Montgomeryshire is backing concerns of Newtown resident Philip Glynn, who was unable to find a seat on the 8.30 train from Newtown to Birmingham on Saturday morning.
Mick says he has written to the Minister regarding the service, highlighting concerns that the new timetable for service into Brimingham will cost Welsh passengers two carriages which will then be added at Shrewsbury for the remainder of the journey. The WAG funded two additional carriages because passenger numbers on the Cambrian Line have increased massively in recent years.
Mick said "I haven't had a reply from the Minister yet! The Cambrian Line is well known to him since I write about constituent issues practically every month! Hopefully, officials are working hard to correct the situation with the carriages before writing back to tell me there is no problem!"
"I have also written about the need for investment at Welshpool Station too. Access to the platforms is poor but once you get there, there is little shelter from the elements and no toilet! Passengers here need electronic real time information. Maybe in the future, passenger information will include the availability of seats - that way freezing Welshpool passengers can abort their journey sooner rather than later!
