Lembit Öpik, Liberal Democrat MP for Montgomeryshire, today congratulated Liberal Democrat Councillor Heather Kidd on winning the Countryside Alliance's prestigious Grassroots Award.
Councillor Kidd, Housing Champion for Unitary Shropshire and Parliamentary Candidate for Ludlow, won the award for her work in increasing affordable housing available in Shropshire and for campaigning on post offices, schools and buses.
Commenting on her award, Heather said:
"After all these years of campaigning it's great to get recognition for the things we've achieved in South Shropshire, and especially for housing more than 400 families through our policies."
Commenting on his fellow campaigner's achievements, Lembit Öpik said:
"For many years, Heather has tirelessly campaigned on important local issues and it is great that this Grassroots award finally recognizes the extensive work she has done to make a real difference to people's lives.
"I am a great fan of Heather's and I have particular admiration for her work on housing issues. It is extremely encouraging that over 400 people now have homes because of her work.
"I hope that residents of South Shropshire and Montgomery will join me in congratulating her on this award."
