Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has demanded an explanation in the Chamber from the Deputy First Minister as the plans for the re-opening of Carno Station are relegated to the backburner and the proposal is pushed into a further study of the whole Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury line.
Commenting Mick stated:
"I am deeply concerned over the lack of firm commitment to the reopening of Carno Station in the recent draft Regional Transport Plan. The Carno Station Action Group dedicated many hours and much work into developing the Carno Transport Appraisal for TraCC to follow government guidelines, yet TraCC appear to have done nothing with it.
"TraCC have failed to produce the business case called for by the Enterprise and Learning Committee so that the proposal could be considered for adoption in the 5 year RTP. Instead TraCC have simply pushed Carno Station into a further study of the whole Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury line, despite support for the proposal from the Enterprise and Learning Committee.
"The Cambrian line has the longest stretch of line without a station and I am extremely disappointed that Carno station has been relegated to the backburner. I hope that the Minister will review the poor way in which TraCC have treated the Carno Transport Appraisal after all the hours of work dedicated by the Carno Station Action Group into the development of this excellent document."
