Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has urged the Minister for Heritage in the Chamber to work alongside the Minister for Transport over the future of the Dyfi Bridge outside Machynlleth. Commenting in the Chamber, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM Mick stated:
"I have long called for improvements to the Dyfi bridge, which is a structure of outstanding historical interest built in 1805. This bridge is an extremely notable architectural feature, yet it bears the daily burden of traffic crossing the river, as well as the threat of damage. When the river floods the arches are lost underwater and the bridge must often be closed.
"In 2005 the Minister for Transport told me that he had asked the Mid Wales Trunk Agency to consider improvements to this structure, yet four years down the line we see no plans let alone action.
"I have urged the Minister for Heritage to work with the Minister for Transport, to ensure an urgent and collaborative approach is taken to improve the Dyfi Bridge, which reconciles the need for a crossing at this point across the Dyfi River with the need to protect and maintain this valuable structure and ensure that it is preserved for the future."
