Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has urged the Minister for Health Edwina Hart to develop a neurological nurse-led team for Powys so that residents with neurological conditions no longer have to drive to Shropshire for treatment.
Speaking in the chamber this week Welsh Lib Dem Mick stated:
"I have met with the Multiple Sclerosis Society Cymru who are deeply concerned about the lack of any specialist MS Nurse provision within Powys. People with MS can attend clinics in Shrewsbury, Herefordshire or Merseyside, but this can involve a one hundred mile round trip.
"I was shocked to learn of the high number of people living with the condition within my own constituency. This week marks MS Awareness Week and I am pleased to give my support to this event which is helping to raise awareness of this condition and the work that is needed to improve MS services in Wales.
"I believe it is crucial that the Welsh Government works to bring together professionals in Powys and other rural areas. I have urged the Minister to give a commitment to work with Powys LHB to develop a neurological nurse-led team for Powys so that people with MS, MND, Parkinson's and other neurological conditions are not forced to drive to Shropshire for basic services."
