Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has called on the First Minister in the Chamber to prioritise an hourly service on the Cambrian Line under the Welsh Assembly Government National Transport Plan.
Under the Welsh Government's Draft National Transport Plan an hourly service between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury will be introduced 'by 2011'.
Commenting, Welsh Liberal Democrat Mick Bates stated:
"The Cambrian Line is becoming increasingly popular, with more and more travellers using the service. We have four carriages but this is not enough to meet current demand and people are being put off by delays and overcrowding.
"It is crucial that we commit to economically sustainable and affordable outcomes, cutting carbon emissions through large scale investment in reliable public transport.
"The Welsh Government must prioritise an hourly service on the Cambrian Line, so that we can put this ambition into action and encourage people to get out of their cars and onto the train."
