Mick Bates AM supports The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has met with The Royal British Legion's Poppy Man in the National Assembly for Wales to support the 2009 Poppy Appeal.

The Royal British Legion hosted the session to provide Assembly Members with the opportunity to meet with Poppy Man, as well as veterans who have recently served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Poppy Man is the embodiment of the Legion's work, and stands for Help, Remembrance and Comradeship, a symbol of vital importance given the increasing need to help the men and women who are serving today, as well as the ex-Service community and their dependants.

Claire Williams, the Legion's County Manager for South Wales said:

"I am delighted that Mick Bates made the time to meet with the Poppy Man as well as veterans today. It is vital that we continue to remember the serving and ex-Serving community, especially at a time when our troops are fighting in Afghanistan."

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM Mick Bates took the opportunity to purchase a Poppy to mark the Remembrance period which will end with the traditional two minute silence in the Senedd building on Wednesday 11th November.

"I was delighted to support the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal launch in Wales. The Legion does very important work helping bereaved families and wounded personnel as part of the whole Armed Forces family and the Poppy Appeal plays a big part in raising funds for this very worthy work.

"I hope that we will see more volunteers give their time to help the work of the Legion and that people will be as generous as they can be when supporting the Poppy Appeal."
