ENERGY BILL MISSING OPPORTUNITY TO TACKLE CLIMATE CHANGE - ÖPIK

Commenting on the Energy Bill, Montgomeryshire's Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Öpik said:
"I am pleased that the Energy Bill is looking to tackle the problem of energy companies charging excessive prices to their poorest customers, but it could do so much more for consumers and the environment.
"The Government is still dithering on essential energy efficiency measures that could reduce bills for customers and help save the environment, and there is nothing on emissions standards.
"It is extraordinary that the Government hasn't done more in this area, and it seems that on the eve of the Copenhagen talks that the Government still don't get the importance of energy efficiency."
