The Liberal Democrats have a proud record in Montgomeryshire, Powys, of representing local people on our local councils, on the National Assembly in Wales and at the Westminster Parliament.

Lembit Öpik has been the Member of Parliament for Montgomeryshire since 1997 (succeeding Alex Carlile), with Mick Bates being elected to the Welsh Assembly for Montgomeryshire at their first election in 1999.

Local MP Lembit Öpik has helped to bring about changes which could transform local support for hundreds of people with autism in Montgomeryshire. Along with the National Autistic Society, Lembit has been calling for dramatic improvements in health, social care and other public services for people with autism through backing the adult autism strategy published on the 3rd March 2010.

Montgomeryshire MP Lembit Öpik has this week been involved in talks with Secretary of State for Wales, Peter Hain, about the unjustly high business rates imposed on small businesses in Montgomeryshire.

Local MP Lembit Öpik joins Campaign to get More Direct Trains to London

The Office of Rail Regulation today announced its decision to reject Arriva Trains Wales application to run two daily direct services between Aberystwyth and London Marylebone. Local MP Lembit Öpik and Arriva Trains Wales are exploring other avenues to get a direct service to London for the people of Montgomeryshire.

Lembit Öpik, MP for Montgomeryshire, has been thanked for pledging to do his bit for the British Armed Forces family.Lembit met with a delegation from The Royal British Legion at Westminster to get behind the charity's call for general election candidates of all parties to support the whole Armed Forces family. Lembit also discussed the Legion's manifesto and the changes that it is calling for.
