Öpik To Visit Texplan Factory Over Job Cuts

2.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 27th Jun 2006

Commenting on Texplan's announcement that they intend to make 43 redundancies at their Newtown office, Lembit Öpik, MP for Montgomeryshire said today:

"I have spoken to Steve Reading, General Manager at Texplan, concerning these redundancies, because the last thing we need is further uncertainty and contraction at the texplan factory. He has assured me that this is part of strategic plan in which the space in Newtown will be redeployed for developing the strongest parts of the business.

"My concern however is for the forty three people who are going to be laid off. For this reason I am visiting the factory next Monday to talk with the staff and management. Everyone has the right to know what's going on and what the chances of reemployment will be.

"I hope to speak to the individuals affected by this announcement. They can be assured that I'm determined to do my best for them and to make sure that the company does the same."
