DEEPCUT CAMPAIGN GATHERS MOMENTUM - ÖPIK10.41.04am GMT Fri 20th Mar 2009 This Tuesday (24th March), Lembit Öpik, Liberal Democrat MP for Montgomeryshire, will take part in a debate about the continuing struggle for justice for the families of those who died at Deepcut Army Barracks between 1995 and 2002 in unexplained circumstances. Taking place at the Tricycle Theatre in London, Lembit will speak alongside his constituent Des James, father of Cheryl James, who died in 1995 at Deepcut Army Barracks, and has been fighting for an independent inquiry in the 14 years since. Commenting ahead of the meeting, Lembit said: "I know that those affected families and I are very grateful for the way in which this play has continued to bring into the public eye the nightmare that these families still face. "Questions remain unanswered over the nature of the initial investigation and subsequent review, and I continue to face real obstruction when asking questions in and outside of Parliament. I have stated publicly that I believe Cheryl James was murdered and I have seen no evidence to make me believe the contrary. "No one has been held accountable for these deaths and as far as I'm concerned the Blake Review was a complete whitewash which conveniently dodged addressing any of the questions over the initial investigation. "I will continue to fight for a full public inquiry for Mr and Mrs James; bereaved parents who no longer have any faith in Government or the Justice system." Ends/diwedd Notes to editor: "Deep Cut" by Philip Ralph is showing at the Tricycle Theatre from Tue 10 Mar 2009 - Sat 4 Apr 2009. Lembit will be attending the play that starts at 7:45pm on Tuesday 24th March, and taking part in the post show debate due to start at 9pm.
